Bio
Rachel Dioso Villa is a visual artist whose work explores the tensions and constraints within institutional systems. Working across drawing, painting, and installation, she creates research informed works that turn legal processes and complex ideas into physical and spatial forms.
Her practice is shaped by long-term engagement with questions of justice, which she approaches through material, repetition, and mark making rather than explanation. Her work focuses on what is often overlooked or left out of formal systems, including emotional strain, persistence, and the unseen labour involved in navigating institutional processes.
Her work has been exhibited across Queensland and interstate, with recognition in multiple national art prizes. Alongside her artistic practice, she is an Associate Professor at Griffith University, where her research on miscarriages of justice informs her work.
